St. Valentine’s Day is upon us. And, as is natural, a young man’s and woman’s thoughts often turn to love. Here are a few things I’d like you to keep in mind as you share this special day with the one you care about.
  • Holding hands with your sweetie while walking is encouraged. Holding hands while you’re driving is not. Please keep both hands on the steering wheel of your car. This enables you to drive safely and you’ll be better prepared to take action in an emergency situation.
  • Nothing says I love you like, “Please fasten your seat belt.” Hugs and kisses are wonderful ways to show that you care. So is asking your passenger to wear their safety belt. And, of course, set an example by always wearing your safety belt. Plus, the fine for this ticket is money that’s better spent on a nice gift for your Valentine.
  • Whisper sweet nothings in your honey’s ear. Just don’t do it over your cell phone while you’re driving. It’s not safe nor is it legal to use your cell phone while you’re driving unless you have the proper hands free device. And as far as sending a text message and driving, just because you have this skill, doesn’t mean you should use it while driving. Don’t ever text and drive.
  • Spend February 14 with your loved one. Not in jail with strangers. Don’t drink and drive. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), if your blood alcohol level is over the legal limit and the police or CHP ticket you for driving under the influence (DUI) you could be looking at $13,500 in fines. And this price doesn’t include possible jail time, loss of license and legal fees. If it’s your second offense, the consequences are even more severe.

Here’s wishing you a safe and romantic St. Valentine’s Day,
