Dodge Journey Recall Alert: Engine Fire Risk!

Dodge Journey Recall

Engine Fire Risks Prompt Fiat Chrysler’s Dodge Journey Recall

Fiat Chrysler, or FCA US LLC, announced a safety recall on some 2011-2015 Dodge Journey models, and a sibling sold outside North America as the Fiat Fremont, equipped with 2.4L, or four-cylinder engines.

The Dodge Journey recall affects some 350,000 vehicles, including 144,416 in the United States, manufactured from July 19, 2010 to May 26, 2015, that contain a defective engine beauty cover. The plastic engine cover could detach from the engine and come in contact with the catalytic converter, or the hot exhaust manifold.

If the displaced engine beauty cover constantly remains in contact with the exhaust manifold (catalytic converter), there will be an increased fire risk whereby, under-hood smoke and/or fire may occur without warning. In most cases, some of the affected vehicles showed signs of heat damage.

Dodge Journey Recall: What Should You Expect from the Manufacturer?

As it is illegal under 49 U.S.C. § 30112(a)(3) for a manufacturer to sell, offer for sale “introduce or deliver for introduction in interstate commerce, or import into the United States” any motor vehicle or motor vehicle equipment that contains a defect related to motor vehicle safety, FCA US will conduct a voluntary recall on all 144,416 affected vehicles.

Fiat Chrysler will notify dealers of the launch of the Dodge Journey safety recall on August 19, 2015, and will begin to alert owners of the affected vehicles on August 26, 2015. Fiat Chrysler will advise dealers to install an enhanced mounting system for the engine cover, free of charge.

Additionally, FCA US requests that consumers send the original receipt and/or other adequate proof of payment to the company in an effort to reimburse owners incurring the cost of repairing an issue that subsequently became the subject of a field action.
