Kia Soul Headliner Plate Recall Affects 95,315 Vehicles
Kia Soul Headliner Plate Recall
Kia is recalling 95,315 of their 2010-2013 Kia Soul vehicles equipped with a sunroof. The affected vehicles were manufactured between January 8, 2009 and October 2, 2013. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall is being issued because of a headliner plate that may detach during deployment of the curtain air bag, which can increase the risk of injury during impact.
The NHTSA states that there are 3 cases of minor injuries, but no accidents have been caused by the issue. Kia received the first complaint in October of 2014, investigations have been ongoing. The investigation shows that Kia Soul models with a sunroof have a different headliner configuration than non-sunroof vehicles, which causes detachment.
