Pyrola Recall Due to Undeclared Drugs: What Next?

Pyrola Recall

What is the Pyrola Recall?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is advising consumers not to purchase or use Pyrola Advanced Joint Formula capsules, a product promoted for being a “100% Natural Herbal Supplement” helping with joint pain. Its manufacturer, G & C Natural Nutrition, Inc., is voluntarily recalling all lots of Pyrola, 430mg/capsule, due to undeclared drugs. The Pyrola recall targets all lots sold to distributors and consumers nationwide from April, 2013 through June, 2015. This product was widely sold on various websites, including, and in some retail stores.

Undeclared Drugs & Pyrola Side Effects

An FDA laboratory analysis confirmed that Pyrola Advanced Joint Formula contains undeclared lots of diclofenac and chlorpheniramine.

Diclofenac is a non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drug (also known as NSAID). NSAIDs may increase one’s risk in cardiovascular events such as, a heart attack or stroke, fatal perforation of the stomach and intestines, as well as serious gastrointestinal damage, including bleeding and ulceration. Additionally, Chlorpheniramine, an over-the-counter (OCT) antihistamine, used to treat allergies, may cause drowsiness and impair mental awareness.

To date, no reports of illness or adverse events associated with the Pyrola recall have been made to the company. However, FDA officials strongly encourage consumers to contact their physician or health care provider if they experience any problems associated with the Pyrola recall. FDA officials also advise consumers to report all adverse reactions and/or quality problems experienced with the Pyrola recall to the FDA MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program.
